Dale Chihuly's Floats in the museum's attrium

TheTacoma Art Museum has added a new Museum411 cell phone tour Ear for Art focusing the howetown work of the world reknown, glass artist Dale Chihuly. Ear for Art features twelve major stops and multiple sub-topics located throughout the Museum and the surrouding district and gives cell-phone users the opportunity to hear a variety of voices including Chihuly himself – talk about the installations at Tacoma Art Museum, Union Station, the Chihuly Bridge of Glass, the University of Washington Tacoma Library, and The Swiss Pub.

The tour includes an interview with owner of the famous Swis Tavern featurng a selection of Chihuly's Venitians

Visitors to the newly expanded Walker Art Center are excited to find that they can use their personal cell phones to access information about the museum's works of art, events and exhibitions through a unique on-site IVR-based audio information system produced in a collaboration between Museum411 the Walker's department of New Media Initiatives.

The Art on Call project was funded in part by a National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to research the capabilities of this emerging technology. Research findings from this project will be published in the spring of 2007.
